I want to take this opportunity and share how important this milestone is for this charity and myself. You may already know this about me, unless you're reading this blog for the first time, but I love running! I took up running as a hobby a few years ago and use it to dedicate time for myself. While my brother, Alex, was in the hospital enduring treatments, I ran about 2-3 miles a day. Let me explain the science to you. While running or in intense workouts, your body releases endocannabinoids in the bloodstream giving you a relaxed calm feeling. Endorphins are also released decreasing muscle pain. This is often referred to "Runner's High". This is probably why I love running so much.
Turning it back to the charity, it makes me laugh to this day how Alex kept tabs on me on how many times I'd be running or at the gym. He would randomly text me and ask me to bring him a specific item from the house or the store just to get me to go visit him in the hospital. Honestly it wasn't needed, I would go visit daily, but it was cute. At this point in time, Alex and I had already started the idea of this charity and said one of our annual events would be a 5k run/walk to raise funds.
The main goal is to make this a fun, exciting event for families annually. It all starts today with you!
I absolutely can not take all the credit here, it's been a long time coming project, but if it weren't for our members, supporters and sponsors, this would not be happening.
It's coming together, looking forward to seeing you all there and I know Alex will be rooting for all of us that day!
